Toronto Hotel X (was Hotel in the Garden) | ?m | 27s | Exhibition Place | NORR

I'm sure looking forward to these eXciting meetings ;)

I hope I have an eXciting meeting here as well because otherwise this project does very little for me unfortunately.... What a misfortune for such a prominent spot...

March 27

Had to laugh when I saw that opening date request for the games since it was still under construction and not op off yet. Yee has little knowledge of construction

I walked by this project yesterday, as I was along the lake. Not as bad as I expected, still bad,, but not terrible. However, because of it's prominent location along the lake, Exhibition and Ontario place, its too bad it wasn't more of a groundbreaking, or unique design.

Hell, even higher quality materials would be nice.

I hope the area at least gets the abundance of trees shown in the rendering.... My guess is that will fall short as well....

Let's hope the Ex doesn't become the next Liberty Village/CityPlace

Check the Magnificent Buildings in Dubai and their Newly-opened tram. I'm dreamin of one day at least even 1/4 of their Awesome Architecture we can imitate here in Canada. :(

While Toronto does need to step up its game especially from a public realm perspective... the two are not comparable.
It's not at all hard to built differently when you have almost eternal sunshine and slave labour.

Been to Dubai many times to visit family and friends and can say that while they have that WOW factor for tourists.. in areas like Jumerieh it's not a very livable place in many aspects when speaking to people who have to go through day-to-day life.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that Dubai is a better society or that we should copy what they are doing but it would be nice to see a few developers think out of the box and give Toronto a few buildings that turn heads. We don't have to go crazy or anything, although I, myself, love a bit of crazy every now and then.

This development isn't as bad as people make it out to be but I think Exhibition Place deserved a landmark building and this is no landmark. I hope the public areas around the building turn out nice and the fountains suggested in the rendering, materialize.

I agree. At the same time, we have some nice examples of neomodernism that get readily dismissed as being "another box"
