To clarify: HPA and Strategies are master planning the site. Peter is hoping to award each individual building to a separate architect. A very wise strategy and one that will surely result in a stronger development.

That is fantastic news, and has me very optimistic that we'll see something of top class quality here, which would revolutionize this rather ugly street.

Yes - hard not to assume an improvement. Freed is usually pretty dependable to not totally destroy a neighborhood to make a quick buck.

to be fair... the mall looks a lot nicer than it did when I lived in the area about 6 years ago. Get rid of it. Can't wait to see some images.

Galleria looks so empty, one could play squash inside the mall without any issues.

Well the mall was actually pretty busy, when I took these pictures last Saturday morning. The travel agency was full of people and so were the TD Bank, the grocery store and certainly the lcbo, more were sitting at the caffé and hanging out in the different hallways, the T Dot Tumblers were practicing in their new gym facility...and the parking was a lot busier than usual/regular week days.

The interior is depressing, but the new Rexal/Canada Post that opened last summer is really nice...but Rexal paid for it, I imagine. The previous owners of the mall never made much improvements but the strict necessary. The signs on the parking lot are just falling apart, and certainly looked more than outdated even 10 years ago or in the 1990s, and so did the parking lot and hallways. How could one just let their multi million dollar property fall in that state of despair for so long...

Though I've never been to this mall in particular, seeing those shiny orange-brown floor tiles and brown brick interior walls makes me nostalgic for the malls of my youth. Not that that's a reason to lament the loss of the mall, it's just that malls get so frequently renovated, it's cool to see an original 70's interior.

Eglinton Square still has tiles like that. Don Mills Centre did as well, when it was enclosed in the 70s.
