I hope they do some maintenance before opening that stretch - the growth in the tree pit is just unsightly.

June 18, 2019 CONSTRUCTION NOTICE 2: Aitken Place Park

Construction on Aitken Place Park began in the fall of 2018. Removal of the former Marine Terminal 29 warehouse foundation and remaining portion of the parking lot was completed in December and construction crews have since completed the installation of below grade sewers and water services, along with much of the park’s earthworks. Over the next several weeks, crews will be focused on completing a number of hardscape features throughout the park. This includes laying out and pouring the curb walls, central walkway, stairs and the foundation for a permanent public art installation called LIGHT KEEPER. The perimeter fencing for the dog relief area located at the north end of the park will also be installed this month. The water’s edge promenade south of Aitken Place Park and Aquavista remains secured and closed off until construction is complete. The park is scheduled to be complete and open for public use by September 30, 2019. When complete, Aitken Place Park will be a multi-purpose park space connecting Bayside to the broader East Bayfront community. This 0.75 acre park is located just north of the Water’s Edge Promenade along Lake Ontario and east of Lower Sherbourne Street. The park is framed by two local roads—Edgewater Drive in the north and Merchants’ Wharf encircling the park site. The southern edge of the park will provide uninterrupted views of Toronto’s eastern harbour.

CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULE
Phase one: This section of promenade runs from Canada’s Sugar Beach to just east of Sherbourne Common and opened in July 2010. Phase two: This section continues east from Aqualina along Merchants’ Wharf for approximately 130 metres. This section is undergoing repairs from the adjacent construction and is scheduled to open in August 2019.
Phase three: This section continues east along Merchants’ Wharf for approximately 90 metres and is scheduled to open in September 2019.
Phase four: The final section continues east to Parliament Slip and turns north to Queens Quay East. This section is the south and east frontages of the future mixed-use development Aqualuna, which will include a community recreation centre. Waterfront Toronto will begin construction on this section in 2023 and anticipates it will be open to the public later that year.

Not surprise based on what I have seen so far.

CONSTRUCTION NOTICE 3: Aitken Place Park

Construction on Aitken Place Park began in the fall of 2018. Over the last several months, construction crews have completed all below grade infrastructure and have since commenced installing the irrigation system and electrical infrastructure for future park lighting. A new children’s playground and dog relief area have recently been installed, and crews have completed seating at the park’s northern overlook and laid the foundation for a future public art installation called LIGHT KEEPER.

Over the next several weeks, crews will continue to install many of the park’s hardscape features including concrete pavers, stairs, ramps and concrete walkways. Park benches and other seating features will also be installed, along with perimeter fencing for the dog relief area located at the north end of the park. The park’s landscape will begin to take shape as crews continue to place planting soils throughout the park’s slopes and planter boxes before placing trees and shrubs throughout.

Aitken Place Park is scheduled to be complete and open for public use in early-October 2019.

CONSTRUCTION NOTICE 4:
Aitken Place Park Construction on Aitken Place Park is progressing well and is nearing completion. The park’s landscaping has been completed including all trees, shrubs and grass along with the dog run, water bottle filling station and benches. Over the next several days, construction crews will complete the park’s hardscape features including laying the final pavers and sandblasting the urban porch. Four new light poles and a handrail are also scheduled to be installed in the park next week.

We anticipate that all remaining work will be completed by early next week. However, fencing around the park will remain in place until early-October to give the new grass that has been placed across the park’s central lawn time to germinate properly. The park’s future public art, called LIGHT KEEPER, is currently in fabrication and we expect installation to occur in fall 2019. Until this time, a plywood box has been placed at the park’s southwest corner to protect the foundation of the future installation.

Aitken Place Park is on schedule to open for public use in early-October 2019.

When complete, Aitken Place Park will be a multi-purpose park space connecting Bayside to the broader East Bayfront community. This 0.75 acre park is located just north of the Water’s Edge Promenade along Lake Ontario and east of Lower Sherbourne Street.
