Could just be lazy rendering. From the looks of the podium renders there's some fins going up the building, they'd potentially appear solid poorly rendered (which it was). Also could be a blank wall, wouldn't put it past them unfortunately!
 
The public realm potential is really exciting, as long as they pay attention to the details, don't cheapen out, listen to the design review panel and pick appropriate and interesting materials.

(that list turned out longer and more hopeful than I thought).
 
So happy to see something hopefully happen here. That entire Bloor/Yonge crossroads, one of the most important intersections, has been such an embarrassment for so long...the bad SE corner with crappy retail finally reinvented with 1BE, now The One, Cumberland Square possibilities (Cumberland Terrace gave me the creeps). Only thing left is to IMPLODE (or reinvent) HUDSON'S BAY CENTRE.
