When most people think of city place, they think of the cluster of buildings south west of this area.
I certainly don't. It's everything from SkyDome to Bathurst and Front to Lake Shore/Gardiner as was envisioned and approved by the old City of Toronto in their final act prior to amalgamation.

This is a very odd hill to die on considering there's no way you have data to verify what most people think, also it's objectively incorrect lol

I thought for a second or two a few months ago about that hitman I have on speed-dial... but opted for the "Ignore" content. Less scrolling too.

Okay, well I guess I'm wrong, but I find it odd, that there's this cluster of buildings and a whole community build around those buildings near Canoes Landing that are very isolated and cut off by Spadina, then just a few building that spill over on the East side of Spadina that have a completely different vibes because of the location.

Anyway, I digress. all I was trying to say, was this building so far is looking good and distinctively better then the others by Concord. Yes we have to wait and see as they get passed the podium, but so far it has promise IMO.

I think that’s just you, considering no one else here thinks that.

You ever watch Toronto youtube walkers? Whenever they do a walking tour of City Place, they never include the buildings east of Spadina. So I guess it's not just me.

On nooooo...not the dreaded "ingore" option. Your opinion is so important to me. Of course you wont even see the quote because you have me on "ignore".

I think a big part of the issue is that CityPlace is such a homogenous collection of window wall-clad towers and this is just 74 more storeys of the same. It feels like a wasted opportunity for what should've been the "signature" piece to the whole area. It's not necessarily bad, but it sure ain't a landmark.

Also personally, I'm so tired of charcoal brick. At this scale the podium is very dark and overwhelming.
I remember when the Four Seasons Centre was built, and the charcoal brick felt so slick and cool - and now, after a decade of it being used on dozens of projects, it feels absolutely worn out. It's sad that Toronto condo builders are so conservative - they must always be part of the trend, never the builder who is setting the trend. Let's hope that 1181 Queen West and the Ace Hotel encourage builders to use brick in different ways.

Agreed, that's pretty much where I'm at with charcoal brick. It was sleek and sharp for some time but seems played out now. Red/natural brick tones are timeless, or as you've suggested, it's time to try new things.

This one's looking like it's gonna have both. Something for everyone lol

Now that I look at the renderings again, looks your right. I'm keeping my fingers crossed once they get above the podium, it won't be as bad as it looks.
