Naturally ,I love the idea of building a park over the rail corridor, but as a GO rider I'm a bit disappointed that this will just make the platforms even darker and danker.

In 10 years they'll realize that keeping the 'heritage' rail shed was a mistake. They'll re-locate it elsewhere and extend the new glass roof in both directions. Problem solved. We'll just have to sit in the dark till then.

A couple kw of LED lighting (30 watt light every 5 meters) per platform would take care of the dark problem; probably too much for night-time though.

Very few subway platforms get much natural light either and "dark platforms" isn't a reason people avoid TTC.

Darkness isn't the sole issue here though. The old rail shed won't ever be as functional or attractive vs. an extended glass roof over the whole stretch. Sometimes it's wise to accept when it's time for a blank slate. Put the heritage rail shed somewhere else.

Toronto had an opportunity to build something very grand that will carry us for the next 100 years but settled on a compromise 'solution' AGAIN! I suppose they'll come to that realization eventually but not before wasting tax payers money by having to do it twice.

It's what we do though. Sometimes we build things 3 or 4 times before we get it right. The ROM Crystal will eventually be clad with a quality material while the AMC cinema at Dundas Square will likely take 3 or 4 tries before we end up with something acceptable. More than half of the towers that went up in the last 10 years will also need to be re-clad but I doubt many of them will ever get a passable exterior. For those, we'll have to wait 30-40 years for their complete demolition/redevelopment.

What are the specifically attractive points about this development? Park over USRC, new GO Bus Terminal, TTC Union Station Loop expansion, PATH connections, Bicycle Parking, and it's a building. What did I miss?

It's also a pretty stellar design by Toronto standards. Wilkinson Eyre are a great group.
