They had a difficult week removing the snow from the 8th level roof, there were multiple workers using leaf blowers and shovels to collect the snow and put it into dumpsters. Three days they worked to clear the snow and when it started snowing again yesterday I felt complete despair for these workers. The orange tarpaulins sitting on the roof usually appear before they start pouring concrete, they make a perimeter wall around the temporary guard rails. The white and transparent plastic sheets enclosing level#7 are usually installed before they start spraying the fireproofing material on the ceiling and steel beams

Construction Update

Dear neighbours,

Below is a brief update on the CIBC SQUARE project:

Construction at 81 Bay Street

We’re excited to share that concrete core walls are now complete to level 54. With the concrete reaching the top floor of the building, our crews are now dismantling the concrete automatic climbing system for exterior platforms. We continue to install structural steel around the concrete core of the building, with current progress reaching levels 42-45. Concrete topping to form the floor of each level has reached level 38, and will continue to rise as the structural steel rises. At the podium level, we’ve completed structural steel installation to level 8, and expect to pour concrete topping to form the floors on level 7 and 8 next week. Level 4 of the podium curtain wall is nearly complete and level 5 of the podium is in progress on the eastern elevation. Work also continues to progress with the installation of curtain wall on level 2 of the bus terminal south elevation.

Rail Corridor Overbuild Park

Structural steel installation for the overbuild park and restaurant pavilion is now complete, with installation of the metal decking at level 5 of the restaurant pavilion ongoing. We expect to pour concrete for phase 4 and phase 5 of the overbuild park in the next two to three weeks. To prepare for this work, our crews are currently tarping and heating the underside of these decks. For safety reasons, all work in the overbuild park continues to take place overnight as workers are not permitted in the rail corridor during the day or evening when tracks are being used by trains. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we complete this work.

When are we working?

The following regular working hours are expected at CIBC SQUARE:

Hours of Work:

5AM - 7AM Monday to Friday: Deliveries at 81 Bay Street, as per approved noise by-law exemption permit
7AM - 7PM Monday to Friday: Regular working hours at 81 Bay Street
7PM - 10PM Monday to Friday: Installation of steel reinforcement rebar at 81 Bay Street and the Podium at 81 Bay Street, as per approved noise by-law exemption permit
10PM - 5AM Monday - Saturday: Overnight work in the rail corridor for the park overbuild, as per approved noise by-law exemption
9AM - 7PM Saturday: Regular working hours at 81 Bay Street

We thank you in advance for your patience during this phase of construction. For any questions or comments, please email us at community@CIBCSQUARE.com.

Lot's changed on the east and south ends of the project so tough to highlight but the formwork coming down as well as the southern crane slowly being lowered is certainly an achievement.

I know it's not done yet but fingers crossed the landscaping and lighting softens up the base of this a bit. It's quite windswept and very cold feeling right now - some warmth is desperately needed!
