Construction Update & Notice

Dear neighbours,

Below is a brief update and notice on the CIBC SQUARE project:

Construction at 81 Bay Street - Update:

Construction continues to progress at 81 Bay Street, as crews raise structural steel and pour concrete for the tower core walls, floor and lobby slabs. This week, concrete core walls were poured for levels 40.5-42, and next week concrete core walls are expected to be poured for levels 42-43.5. As well, next week concrete lobby slabs are expected to be poured on level 36, and concrete topping for the tower floor will be poured for level 23. Structural steel installation also continues to progress in the southeast corner of the building, with crews currently working on levels 27-30. The curtainwall installation at level 11 is expected to be complete today, July 19th, and the north crash wall construction is nearing completion, with only one concrete pour remaining at the east edge of the property. Fireproofing of the tower is also underway at level 21. At the podium level, crews expect to begin structural steel installation at level 4 next week, and nearly all mechanical and electrical equipment has been delivered for level 3. Work also continues on levels 1 and 2 of the bus terminal.

Construction at 81 Bay Street - Notice:

Please be advised that construction crews will be on-site this Sunday, July 21st between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to raise crane #3. This work is being completed to maintain pace with the tower as it continues to rise, and is not expected to produce significant noise. We appreciate your patience as we complete this work.

Rail Corridor Overbuild Park

Structural steel erection continues in the overbuild park, with the sixth phase of work expected to be complete next week. Crews are also installing the metal deck at the park level, with phases 4 and 5 expected to be complete next week, and phase 6 beginning July 29th. On July 26th, crews are expected to complete an extended, overnight concrete pour for phase 1 – 3 of the overbuild park. For safety reasons, all work in the overbuild park continues to take place overnight as workers are not permitted to be in the rail corridor during the day or evening when tracks are being used by trains. Your patience during this phase of work is very much appreciated.

When are we working?
The following working hours are expected at CIBC SQUARE:

Hours of Work:
5AM - 7AM Monday to Friday: Deliveries at 81 Bay Street, as per approved noise by-law exemption permit
7AM - 7PM Monday to Friday: Regular working hours at 81 Bay Street
7PM - 10PM Monday to Friday: Installation of steel reinforcement rebar at 81 Bay Street and the Podium at 81 Bay Street, as per approved noise by-law exemption permit
10PM - 5AM Monday - Saturday: Overnight work in the rail corridor for the park overbuild, as per approved noise by-law exemption
9AM - 7PM Saturday: Regular working hours at 81 Bay
9AM -5PM Sunday July 21: Tower Crane #3 Climbing

I wish this was 250m. It needs to be taller than the other south core towers.

i agree. Hines should have gone with the approved heights or atleast one tower could have been 250m, wouldn't have cared if the second tower was 220m-230m. love the tower though, i bet Toronto haven't seen quality like this in decades.

Ten meters here and 10 meters there is no big deal, like i said before they should have been in the upper 200 to 300 meter range,

Things that go 'jump' in the night

Little blue temporary crane (between crane #3 and #4) which was used to position mechanical equipment has been dismantled and removed. Yellow crane sections to increase height of crane#3 are sitting in the space left by the removal of the blue temporary crane. Space is tight on the mechanical level #3
