Construction is well underway on the first phase of a residential and commercial development in Stonegate that will include a three-times-larger Stonegate Community Health Centre and the much-anticipated Berry Road Food Co-op.
Just the facts:
• Vandyk Group’s first phase of its Backyard Neighbourhood Condos will be the 32,000-square-foot Shoppes at Stonegate
• Backyard Condos' next three phases include a six-storey, 96-unit condo, a 200-unit building as high as 10 storeys, and a 200-unit condo
• Phase 1 anchor tenants: the new Berry Road Food Co-op and the new, relocated, larger 15,000-sq. ft. Stonegate Community Health Centre are expected to open in June
• The 9,000-sq. ft. food co-op is a multi-stakeholder organization of shoppers, employees and farmers providing not-for-profit access to healthy, local, sustainable food
• The food co-op is partnering with the health centre to offer educational programs in the co-op kitchen, such as cooking and canning
• “Supported” members buy income-accessible products while “supportive” members may purchase higher-priced options
• The food co-op is expected to attract residents from Bloor Street West and The Queensway, and from Mimico Creek to the Humber River
• People may join the food co-op, buy a $200 co-op credit voucher, volunteer or donate.
