Toronto Aqualina at Bayside | 47.85m | 13s | Tridel | Arquitectonica

Spandrelly spandrel.

I always love it when renders show a building to be all-glass but then it really ends up with as many vision glass panels as a building clad in precast .

Really is a darn shame, @Tridelwebmaster, about the quality of materials on all but one portion of the building. Hope subsequent Tridel projects do better (looking at you, Well).

I'm assuming the reason for the angled balconies is for the unobstructed views of the lake from any floor and from any distance from the building. But from the previous pictures, looks like the white columns are going to impede on that view in some cases.

Those close to the columns will still see around them, I cannot imagine that what they block would represent more than a couple of degrees of view.

I don't get it. The building would have much greater visual appeal if, in my limited view, they did not tack on that box on the waterfront side. Without it, the building would have stepped down nicely toward the shoreline.

The "block" was meant to be an anchoring design element even back in the original Koetter Kim East Bayfront Precinct Plan:

Also in the UD guidelines:

Though of course, the "iconic" part have gone missing.
