So why is this able to go straight up from the street, whereas the City seems to insist on or at least strongly push podium and setback topology almost everywhere else? (Not complaining, I like it.)

Although at some point, I'd reckon we'll likely end up being disappointed by the cladding. Just a matter of what degree the disappointment may be. ;)
 
Ladies and Gentlemen, I think we've found the new dynamic duo of worst developer/architecture firm combinations in Toronto. I didnt think things could get worse than the likes of Canderel partnering with G+C, or Concord partnering with virtually any architect, but this is one of this biggest jokes i've ever seen in my life.
