i hope they do something with the underside of the balconies. Anyone know if they are going to be painted or...? Would be a shame if they left them raw concrete.

Yes they will be painted. Many of the lower balconies have already been done. The first box also just had its underside completed last week.

This has probably been asked plenty of times but what's the floor (concrete) thickness here and is it a roughly standard value across typical buildings or engineered?

I would assume 200-250mm for the slabs here.

A lot of rules of thumb and assumed loading calculations help determine what the slab thickness will be based on the structural grid and bay size (space between columns).

Usually it can be assumed that a standard slab in a cast-in-place concrete condominium project like many of the ones we see in Toronto will be about ~200mm, but of course all structural design considerations need to be overviewed by structural consultants. Some parts of the slab may have beams, drop panels, etc., and end up being much thicker than 200mm.

But during schematic design, the loading calculations/assumptions (dead load, live load, and safety factors) are generally quite straightforward and allow for some assumptions about slab thickness.

Let me know if you have any other questions about this. Most of those terms should bring up some Google results, but I'm happy to elaborate based on what I know.
