The cladding on the east side of the Gerrard frontage is a tad overbearing.

The cladding on the east side of the Gerrard frontage is a tad overbearing.
The existing tower is going to be reclad to match, which should help it look much better
 
Concrete has texture and creates a contrast with the new cladding. Picturing this entire city block clad in aluminum panels wouldn't be an improvement, it would look terrible.
 
i actually really like how both the materials and the orientation of the lines (being perpendicular between old and new) are juxtaposed and break up the superstructure

I like that too but it's always hard to like something when you still remember the earlier rendering (which was far nicer). It's like being shown a Miele and given a Frigidaire.
