Grade C office building (~85K square foot), over 90% leased ... not sure what or if there is a main tenant.

I can't imagine this building could be demolished !

I recall Clr Wong-Tam adding a motion to a city council meeting to designate this as a heritage building. I'm not sure where it ended up. See: http://www.toronto.ca/legdocs/mmis/2012/te/bgrd/backgroundfile-45225.pdf
 
Tenants include the Metro (newspaper) offices, ACTRA and the provincial government.

I wonder if the project would be on the surface parking lot behind the office building? It's not huge, but you could cram something in there.
 
The City leases the entire 5th floor per this document.

Thanks for both replies regarding the tenants ! It's always interesting to know.

I really can't imagine the city letting this one go (well I can ... but it would be a loss in my books).
 
I don't think it's been listed/designated. And y'know, back in the day, these post-WWII Insurance Alley hulks were deemed pretty stodgy and constipated by the Modernist tastemakers--so keep that in mind if you're wondering why bla bla bla. (Today is different, of course.)

All the more so for Traders being "sidestreet" rather than fronting on Bloor proper.

It's a decent building- would look quite good if it was retained as a podium and the ground floor opened up for additional retail frontage.
