Toronto 2851 Yonge Street | 27.3m | 7s | Lanterra | Core Architects

Update:
Following an updated submission for the CORE Architects designed mid-rise at 2851 Yonge Street, City Staff have recommended the slightly scaled-down project for approval. Planned at a reduced height of 7 storeys, the previously 8-storey project is now poised for Council approval, with the Muir Park Developments building introducing 41 rental units to Yonge Street, south of Lawrence Avenue.

Denied by hostile amendment. Jaye Robinson remains sycophantically servile to the surrounding single family detached homeowners (voters).

Off to the 'oppressive, unelected OMB':

Exhibit number 763,988 that she's a harmful, ignorant, stubborn, power-hungry pox on this city.

When the sane and useful Toronto councillors decry the OMB and demand that power be put back in their hands, Jaye Robinson is the reminder of why that position is so ludicrous.

This has been approved at the OMB according to the NRU. I expect construction to begin soon, given that it will apparently be a rental building.

This is one where the OMB works. Planning recommended approval, council approved it but meddled with setbacks that would have effectively killed the project. Developer appealed to the board with the city's positive staff report, and quickly gets approval. The City's legal team didn't even call upon planning evidence as planning supported the application.

This is a classic case of the local Councillor trying to play politics to kill a good project, and the OMB allowed the developer to bypass it.

According to Realnet - this is Lanterra now - they purchased site a few weeks ago

I'm curious to see if this has begun construction yet. Altree has a large image of this as one of its current main 3 feature projects: Google street view of the area which only reaches up to October 2018 doesn't show that anything had happened yet at that point. Gotta get up to that neck of the woods one of these days to check out the site.

Also some brief details:

Recently approved at the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB), 2851 Yonge Street will be a 7 storey mid-rise luxury rental boutique building with 41 suites. The ground floor will include commercial office/retail space on the south end of the Yonge Street frontage.

Not sure what's the deal here. Altree's website states that this project's status is completed now. While it still remains a parking lot.

Not to be that guy, but this is some (closer to) NYC-style mid-rise!

I've also found that walking along the west side of Yonge with the brick apartments buildings approaching Lawrence, and the park spaces on the east side, there's a slight (smaller scaled) Upper West Side feel about it.
