Toronto 2444 Yonge Street | 114.27m | 31s | First Capital | Hariri Pontarini

Is anyone concerned about this whole block being redeveloped? Uptown Yonge is vibrant and filled with great retail and restaurants. Will it be torn down block by block and replaced with large retail bays?

I love that section of Uptown Yonge -- I used to live on Erskine -- but I really think the solution is to force developers to build appropriately sized retail units at ground level. I have similar thoughts about the Danforth: I like it as it is but we can't leave main streets filled with two-story buildings (heritage buildings excluded).

Haven't walked by this block in years, but fond memories of that former Future Shop location. Bought my first digital camera here for high school photography class. Back in the good old days before the age of smart phones.

Well considering the way they went around sneakily demolishing 2444 Yonge (same block), the developers have no qualms about emptying the entire block to avoid pesky issues like heritage.

architectsAlliance. I don't think I can divulge the developer yet but anyone with RealNet access shouldn't have trouble finding it. Proposal has also evolved from the below since these images were produced.

Does this mean that the Restoration Hardware building remains in situ? Is it incorporated in the development?

that looks extremely preliminary. I would read those as massing models only.

Toronto Preservation Board moved to designate the FedEx and Restoration Hardware (2430 and 2434 Yonge) buildings a couple weeks back on June 22 here. The accompanying report with pics is here. They'll probably be voting on this in today's (next 4 days') Council meeting. Looks like this was identified as potentially heritage as a part of a broader Yonge/Eglinton study, and they might have pushed this designation forward knowing that this application was forthcoming.

Developer is Main & Main:
