For a moment I hoped you were being ironic. It's amusing how charges of 'sameness' usually target buildings that are bold, different, special. Whereas the repetitive, banal stuff is ignored escaping criticism for the most part.

It's early, but I'm thrilled so far with 1 Yorkville!

It's a block or two away from my place and I'll see it in my living room window, so I was hoping for something brighter, more reflective. It looks like the most boring, flat grey imaginable.

What I'm concerned with is the possibility that from far away, you might not be able to see the sculptural properties of this building and it might just look like a big, grey mass, especially if the grey portion is dull and does not reflect the light, which from the pics posted here, appears to be the case. If they add in some grey spandrel panels here and there, that will only make matters worse. In the last few years I have come to hate the colour grey, so any more grey added to our skyline is of concern to me. Our skies are grey enough most of the year, we don't need to make it worse with 75% of all new condos being grey to some extent, even if the building has an interesting design!

Good God that looks very grey on a grey day.

Trolling and whining, whatever happened to the glory days of Urbantoronto? Why not call it a box, since it's somewhat rectangular and 3 diminsional?
Stop trolling 1 Yorkville and finish your homework. Those C+ grades arent going to help you build gold coloured condos in Dubai.

Setting aside the bizarre incoherence of most of that post, it's worth noting that there's only one active troll on this thread.

I agree that some criticisms on this site can be repetitive, but I don't think @ADRM's post was an example of that.

I didn't see anything in ADRM's post that would qualify as "trolling" or "whining". He made an (accurate) observation that didn't even seem to have anything to do with his overall opinion of the aesthetic. He liked the photos in the very post above.

It's a grey cladding of course it looks grey. Name me a grey building in the city? This is unique and it's going to stand out around there. Can't wait to see the cladding rise.

It looks like the individual columns of cladding are narrower and shallower than in the renders. I'm wondering if the finished result will end up looking less dramatic.

This looks like a better ratio of fin-to-window than was in the renderings (which made me imagine that the suits might be a bit dark), but the photos so far underscore for me that in dull cloudy lighting conditions, the won't stand out so much. On sunny days though, I am expecting it'll look impressively textural.

Agreed - the weather of late hasn't been conducive to seeing this in the 'best light'. In gleaming sunshine, the reflective quality (see last image) and contrast of the fins' shapes should improve, especially as a vertical pattern emerges. Took the following pics on February 77 (yesterday) during afternoon flurries.
