Design goodness hunters Dezeen got this pictures of the 1,174-feet-high Sinosteel International Plaza in Tianjin, China, designed by architects MAD—or just mad architects. The external white honeycomb structure, with huge hexagonal windows that vary slightly in size, is not just for the pretty looks: it will sustain the whole building without the need for any internal structure. And make it look like a huge wasp nest to me. From the inside, however, each room looks like a space station.

Note: MAD is the same team that designed Absolute World in Mississauga.

Like almost every Chinese megaproject, this one looks like an urbanistic catastrophe. I am only passingly familiar with Tianjin, but from the contextual rendering this looks like it will be going into some Pudong-esque, heroic-scaled skyscraper park.

That's too bad; Tianjin is actually a somewhat appealing city as northern China goes. The city centre is considerably more vibrant than Beijing's and the river running by it is sort of pretty.

Great looking building. We have the privilege of having one of their buildings under construction here ... The Absolute in Mississauga.
