Suggestions for Berlin

My partner and I are heading for Berlin in a few months and I would really appreciate any feedback that forumers who have visited Berlin may have. What neighbourhoods are good to stay in? Any memorable restaurants? Bar recommendations? And, of course, what are the must-see architectural sights?
Any and all tips are appreciated!

Lot's of places to eat / drink at in the Hakechermarkt area - the stop on the S-Bahn in between Friedrichstraße & Alexanderplatz.

Zoo is a pretty yawn-worthy area IMO. I stayed at a hostel, which was a Zoo, wasn't very impressed with much of the old American sector. In fact Berlin never really gelled with me, but nevertheless, stick to the old East.

You must must must must must do a walking tour of Berlin, I had an absolutely bonkers Canadian tour guide and his enthusiasm for Berlin's change and the info that he gave certainly left me with a better impression of the place as opposed to when I first arrived and just wandered around.

A few months? Get bikes and a transit pass. Kreuzberg is a great area for bars and clubs as is Mitte and Prenzlauerberg. There are some fantastic spots in the former West as well - just pick up local daylies/weeklys to see what's going on in the city (there are always endless choices for things to do no matter what you're interested in).

You are going to absolutely love the city - and the city will love you back! Be careful.... what happens in Berlin stays in Berlin! :)

I'd also highly recommend staying here:

It's in the tony Charlottenburg nighbourhood, but is actually very affordable and well connected to the rest of the city.

In general, Berlin's amazing though. Easily Top 3 as far as European cities go. Have fun and don't forget to post some pics!
