Kitchener Station Park: Building E | 184.95m | 50s | VanMar Developments | Kirkor Architects

I wonder if it'll be visible from Guelph... maybe?

If the conditions are right and you know where to look you can see the top of DTK condominiums above the trees when you're on hwy 7 coming to Kitchener. So you'll definitely be able to see this at least from hwy 7.

HD renderings, thanks to @Pinski :

Uhhh… not trying to make "fetching" happen, but that is really fetching Kirkor. The curvy-cornered tower and podium work very well together, and this is a very good way to landmark where King Street meets the railway. If there's any spot in Kitchener best suited to a "you are here" moment on the skyline, this is it.

Hmmm, did Kirkor hire someone new, to lead this design effort? LOL

This looks so unlike their usual.

Much more streamlined

Only a couple of things going on, not 4-7 things going on.

Crane is already up for tower C and D

Thats just the crane for Tower C. There's actually a second crane on site that's tucked around the corner close to tower B to allow that section of underground parking to be completed since the main crane can't reach that far. A random piece of trivia is the tower crane closest to tower B (not in your picture) is the first luffing jib tower crane in Kitchener and afaik in Waterloo Region as well.

Vanmar has yet to start construction on tower D, they haven't even applied for any permits yet. From what I know they haven't sold enough units in tower D and they had barely sold enough in tower C. Other projects scattered throughout downtown are in a similar boat as no one is currently buying units (660 Belmont-Zehr Group and Q condos-Momentum Developments).

Well! I'm impressed.
This is a big step up for Kitchener compared to all the gawky, boxy mediocrities that have been passing for architecture here lately.
It looks awfully busy - no telling yet how that will all translate - but it's great to see a building expressively attempt make good on it's site. They've decided to accentuate the wedge end of the building to add flair to the streetscape, along with the accent of that playful fluted column. They've also leaned into creating a retail streetwall - Thank Gawd! - which for this blank stretch of King Street is akin to an oasis in a desert. Most of the buildings on this grey-hued section of King don't really engage the street. That retail should add some light, warmth and definition to it.

Hopefully there won't be some terrible cheapening and that it will be done with some panache. At least, for once, we're getting something interesting. Here's hoping it goes well.

...it's almost if the developer hired ProjectEnd-san to crack the whip on them. 🙀
