I'm surprised nobody picked up on this yet. The province has announced its plan for highway expansion and rehabilitation over the next five years.

Some interesting projects included in the Toronto area, including some more HOV lanes, small widening of the 401 in Mississauga, assorted widenings of the 401 across Ontario, complete reconstruction of the 427 from the QEW to the 401, and the 410 extension up to rejoin Highway 10.

There's more in there, so it's well worth a look.

A lot of these projects have been on the books for some time or announced to some degree allready. This is at the very least, a handy consolidation of MTO's plans.

Overall its not a very offensive plan. That being said, I wouldnt be surprised to see more highway projects announced under the federal Conservatives.

Edit: Some projects might be questionable but a lot of them seem to fall under the category of regular maintanence. A lot of the reconstruction work that has taken place on the 401 east of Kingston (and including the city itself) has been the first major work done since it was constucted in the 60's. Given the heavy usage of the highway (and others in Ontario) and the need to make safety upgrades in many sections a lot of this work is well worth while and a wise investment.
