When I read articles like this https://outline.com/kddbwM I think to myself there has to be a better way to manage the rental housing stock in Ontario that both protects tenants and gives property owners incentive to build more and keep more rental property. My thinking is there should be a hard separation between property use for home vs. rental, same as we have for residential and commercial rental property. Under this, if you buy a house with intention to rent it out, you cannot without a permit evict the tenants and convert that house into your own personal residence. The scammery of property owners declaring to tenants that they need the house for their own or family use as a means to evict them would thus be curtailed. Also, renovictions would need to be controlled.
