York U is about to gain a beautiful facility dedicated to health science-related research. The building was the old Ice Palace building (ice rink), which has been gutted and refitted with the addition of a second floor, all within the envelope of the original building. Some of you may remember the old structure, but you would never recognise the new! It is fabulous!!! Move in will be a rolling process, which is scheduled to start in Feb. As one of the scientists who will use the space, I can't contain my excitement. :)

Renders (which don't do the project justice) here

AmJ (who is thrilled with the christmas present - thank you to the donors!)

Interesting stuff. Thanks for posting this, which has somehow been off the radar screen. In spite of Mars being stalled out, we seem to have the ongoing building of research space for health-related sciences at various locations in Toronto -- a very welcome trend.

YorkU's life science building is underway.

Construction work is currently another underway on the YorkU campus on a second science building - currently it's known as the life sciences building. This one will have some lab space for the basic life science research, but mostly the space is dedicated to teaching lab space so we can get more undergraduate science students doing more hands-on science research as part of their undergraduate courses.
