This site has been vacant for most of my life (perhaps more).

Which is to say, more than 4 decades..............

I wonder who sat on it for that long; and what changed.

****

I became familiar w/this area in/around the age 10, when my father drove me out to Family Kartways; a GO Kart and small-scale amusement park, which was just north of Taunton, on the east side of Brock.

Whitby was then a City of 40,000 according to the MTO signage along the 401.

Today, it's in the neighbourhood of 135,000

****

Back then, there were no cell phones (unless you count those 10lbs clunkers you could carry in a brief case)..........

And landline was long distance to Whitby.

........Funnily enough..........land line is still long distance to Whitby............

The changes along (once sleepy) Brock north have been quite astonishing. With Smart Centres and Dumb Centres and everything in between. I grew up in Ashburn (north of here), and even Brooklin has ballooned enormously. The 407 extension is only adding to this. Durham is booming as much as any other part of the GTA.

What is it about Durham Region....of a few years ago that it generated multiple good photographers who moved to the big City?

Toronto picked up both you, and @kotsy.

I had never heard of Family Kartways before you mentioned it. Searched online and found a 1984 commercial. Also, found this https://www.facebook.com/groups/BHSociety/permalink/635412883945504/. I think the former location is just 400M north of this site.

The commercial on Youtube is here:

That's just before they started adding conventional amusement park rides:
