ROM Membership

Hey everybody, I'm aware that some of you have ROM memberships.

I want to become a member but am unsure of which of the many options to choose.

In short, my interest lies within using the ROM as a place of contemplation and of work. I'm inspired by great architectural places and I would love to be able to go to the ROM to not only see the exhibits but to maybe sit in the Spirit Room and work on my laptop, photograph the architecture or read a book.

On occasion, it would be nice to be able to take a friend/client with me. I noticed that that option exists.

My budget for this membership would be around $200/$300 annually.

Any advice is much appreciated.

I have an individual membership and it's quite a bargain IMO. How many times do you intend to take others with you per year? Your budget is more than enough to cover the Curator's circle level, which lets you bring a guest along.

Thanks Alvin. The more I think about this, the more I think that this would be a spectacular way to meet with my clients.

As a creative communicator (photographer/graphic designer/writer/speaker), I like to meet my clients in inspiring places. I don't like formal sit down meetings. I'd rather be engaged by art and history as I speak to them.

I think I'd be bringing a guest in very often, now that I think of it.

The thing about the Curator's Circle is that it includes 2 people named on the card while I don't have anybody in mind to put on the card.... it's just me.

As to perks - apparently the membership gets you prioritized booking for the architectural viewing. I don't have any solid info as to how it will work.

Yes, the Curator's circle allows you to bring in an unnamed guest, but it also asks you for a second named member on the card. I guess it's ideal for a married couple with kids (who get in free under 17).

I've written the ROM asking if the possibility exists to trade my second named member privileges in lieu of a discount on my second year or something of the sort. Good luck to me, I know. :)
 
Thanks Alvin, I think I'll go with the Curator's circle, but I'll wait for the ROM's reply on whether or not I can trade in my second named member for something else.

On a similar note, I've tried several times to work out a special request with the CN Tower for an annual membership, but they're not budging.
I can't wait for Trizec Hahn to finally sell the tower off to a more public friendly and entrepreneurial owner.
 
MetroMan: Why not test drive an individual membership for a year - or a family membership, which works out chearer for two people?

Once you're hooked, once you "get to know" some of the exhibits like they're old friends and return to enjoy them whenever you feel like it, you can branch out into specialist memberships if you decide to learn more.

The docents, who you'll find in most galleries, donate their time and are very knowledgeable. They have to take a course and sit an exam before they're allowed to represent the museum to the public. They love answering questions and have a real passion for the collections.

The nice thing about having a membership is that you can see the special exhibitions as often as you want.

They don't cooperate with anyone. I once worked on the Roger's TV show "Structures" and we had contacted Trizec Hahn about doing a feature on the tower and it's history. They flat-out refused and said they prefer to provide their own history via their website. In fact, they even said "any filming of the tower is not allowed and won't be tolerated."
 
Thanks guys, I think I'm going with the curator's circle since being able to bring a guest is so central to my needs.
 
According to their website, the ROM signed up over 2,200 new members during the holiday period, when Gordo and the lads went on display.
 
We have a family Curator's Circle membership. This allows us to bring two unnamed adult guests, one for each adult named member, along with our two kids. I think it may also allow us to bring other kids too.
