Keep away from magnolias - they're real pretty but prone to scale. Mine had it a few years ago and now has carpenter ants that I've got to get treated.
At this time of year the back garden's a jungle and I only venture out there to pick berries. Made raspberry/redcurrant/mulberry jam last week. This week it was gooseberry. Up next: raspberry, and a blackcurrant/redcurrant mixture.
