Linked to this list in one of the WDL threads..............

I thought it worthy to have a look at the entire list of properties the province currently deems surplus in Toronto:

Of these, 2 show as having been sold:

123 Elmcrest.................hmmmm

Why does the province own a tiny bungalow in the midst of Centennial Park in Etobicoke?

It's the only house on the west side of Elmcrest north of Rathburn.

That one is odd. It's almost like it's leftover from expropriations for the park.. but why not just demolish it and add to the park?

Interesting to see how many properties are still left from the Spadina Expressway, and that the province owned many of them instead of the city. The city owned all the land for the Scarborough Expressway, I know that.

My understanding is that the province and city only disposed of the leftover expressway lands for Richview, 400 extension, and Crosstown expresssways in the last few years. If you know where to look at parcel mapping you can still sort of trace their routes.

567 Arlington(Spadina Corridor) is also very odd - a tiny bungalow squeezed between two newer and nicer homes. Why? Why? Why?

That one is pretty clearly a leftover from the Spadina Expressway. It was likely expriopriated in advance of the other properties adjacent for whatever reason, the expressway got cancelled, then the property was more or less forgotten about and never sold.

Looks like the province still owns dozens of parcels for the expressway, judging by that list. Which is a surprise given that it's been nearly a half-century since it was cancelled, in June of 1971.

203 Ava Road is the same way, it is occupied with a little house on a desirable strip of larger rebuilds.

126 Elmcrest is actually a significant chunk of property, 56m of frontage on Rathburn and +/- 95m of north-south depth.

Indeed it is, here is most of it (as much I could capture in one shot, with the lot lines imposed over)

Just measured it out.............a bit over 5000m2 which is 0.5ha or 1.25 acres.
