Premier Doug Ford's Ontario

Naw.... he is scared things are derailing and has decided to accept the advice of those who are educated and know better. It must be painful for this bully not to be incharge and pretend he knows better. His back is against the wall, he has no choice.

Agreed. The current crisis probably has him terrified. No way to bullshit, lie or bluster your way through this, is there? "It wuz th' previous administaytion's fault!"

As I said yesterday - and as the current situation brutally highlights - it's funny how Ford's rabid fanbase are willing to ignore the sheer number of walkbacks on his positions once they prove untenable or inconvenient. Thug being a bullyboy asshole is the main part of these peoples' approval, and the fact that he's had to backtrack on so much of his, er, 'policy' might just be seen as weakness if viewed with a cold and unwavering eye...but they pretend not to notice whenever it happens. And it's happened quite a bit now. Funny that.

At one point in time, people considered lead Ford-trumpeteer Neil Flagg seriously. He was interviewed by media and positioned himself as some sort of legitimate conservative pundit.

I took a look at his FB today. It would appear he abandoned Ford a while back because he dared be at the unveiling of Kathleen Wynne's official portrait. This man was once given a (brief) blogging stint at The Rebel.

He also wholeheartedly believes this pandemic is a hoax.

Wasn't Flagg in the Goldy/Bernier camp?

For mayor and the run up to the provincial election he was all in for Ford. Then Doug did something he didn’t like so much and Neil flipped over to The People’s Party. He fell back in line behind Ford after an election’s worth of dog whistling, then Doug forgot about his ultra right wing mandates and Neil left.

I was watching the Premier's presser announcing the state of emergency in Ontario. Boy, when he can't riff his freewheeling populism style he looks really uncomforatble. Very similar to Trump in this way. There's a difference between the 'this is serious, concerned and empathetic leader face' and 'you are at your grandmother's funeral trying to hold back gas' look..

Well, fish out of the water. Suck it up - it's your job.

Unless (or even if?) Ford somehow declares that sticker companies are an essential service, you gotta wonder if Deco can survive the crisis. They've been bleeding cash for years and the slowdown is only going to make things worse. Helps that they do a lot of food labeling but it probably won't be enough.

Watch for Douggie to do something stupid/unethical/illegal in the next few months to keep the family business afloat.

From link. Not to worry, Doug Ford will still be paid.

And... sticker companies are a go:

will the good reviews help him with the election in 2022?
2022 is a lifetime from now. His performance has improved, but largely because he isn't screwing up as badly as Trump. Plus, this early days stuff is very much the easy part.

The province is about to go super-deep into the red, employment is way down and small business are about to get decimated. If he can't walk the fine line between stimulus and restraint it's going to be very hard to run on his record.

We’ve still got a long way to go

With Del Duca and Horwath as the alternatives though? Ford More Years is looking ever more than likely by the day.

No one wants political uncertainty during a time of crisis and it may take years for things to get back to normal yet.
