Hey Guys,

I'm a recent grad from UofT with a major in Urban Studies. I know it isn't an urban planning degree but I was wondering what employment opportunities I could get in the GTA. I tried workopolis and monster and have called places but no luck and call backs. It's very frustrating and I know there are people out there that are in my position. Any firms/research firms/urban corporations (ex, waterfront toronto) that you may suggest?

much appreciated!

The name of your degree is less important than what skills you possess. I'm in a similar program, but I still don't know what an "Urban Studies" degree entails or with what experiences it provides you. Why don't you post the skills do you have listed on your resume here and we may be able to give better advice?

Urban Studies...its kinda like urban planning but touches upon different aspects of the built and social environment; architecture, transportation systems, the environment, social (urban sociology), city politics, geography, etc, etc.

As for skills, here is a general gist of it...

- Knowledge of the Ontario Planning Act, and site development approval process
- Microsoft office (word, excel, powerpoint, outlook)
- Research and Analytical skills
- Communication skills, both oral and written
- Creative Problem Solving
- Knowledge and perspective of current urban issues and trends

.....?
