Physical models a thing of the past?

I saw this video of a new technology called "holographic displays" being used as a replacement for a physical model of a building or streetscape. It's very interesting technology as it seems to allow one to 'explore' a rendered image of the building, the only problem I see is when the light source is cut out, the display just turns to black. I don't see many people using it now, however, it could be a glimpse into the future of displaying models for buildings.
