Is anyone going to NXNE this year? I just bought my wristband but I'm afraid the lineup won't be as good as it was last year. I want to check out "A Northern Chorus", "the Old Soul", and maybe "You say Party! We say Die!" but other than that nothing really stands out. Who knows, though, there might be a dark horse somewhere...

I'm going to the opening night party, but otherwise have a busy non-NXNE weekend planned. I'd definitely check out You Say Party! We Say Die! given the chance though!

SXSE's little cousin has been a bit wanting for a while now, or perhaps I'm just getting a tad old.

^Ha ha!

Actually, I'm stoked about NXNE even if it won't be as awesome as 2006. Seriously, last year's show which wrapped up with King Khan at the Silver Dollar room flailing around like James Brown was just wild. There's some good stuff this year that I might not be able to do just because of the line like Voxtrot and the Junior Boys. If you're feeling a tad bit old, Jason, check yourself in to the Horseshoe on Friday night for White Cowbell Oklahoma. By day, Graham "Hollis", one of the guitarists, is a mild-mannered bartender and owner of the Magpie. Give the man a double guitar, though, and he'll be able to play all of Black Sabbath's "Iron Man" with his cock.

The Diodes had a free NXNE concert at Dundas Square last Saturday that we went to check out... even if you weren't a fan, they really knew how to liven the place up!

NXNE had some fantastic bands but now that everyone and their dog has a music blog, waaaaaay too many people have press badges and can jump the line. This meant that this year's festival was more for "the press" and less for the rest of us. I waited seemingly forever to see Champion, even though I was at the front of the line for wristband holders. One look at the lineup snaking around the corner of Queen street for the You say Party! We say Die! and Sebastian Grainger concert convinced me to scout out lesser talent.

Highlights: Handsome Furs, Champion, a Ghost is Dancing
