Hey guys, I'm looking to further discover our country and I have some free time and money coming up. I'd love to do something different and thought the Canadian arctic would be a wonderful adventure.

Has anybody travelled to Nunavut? How did you get there and what should I see? I'm thinking of going by train, hopping on and off along the way.

Any advice?

The only way to get there is by plane. There are no roads or rail to Nunavut.

Visiting Yellowknife first, and flying from there would be your best bet. I'd say train to Edmonton and then flying from Edmonton to the north.

Check out http://www.nunavuttourism.com. Click on the Explore Nunavut Travel Planner PDF, which has lots of info. Their flight maps seems to indicate that you can fly to Iqaluit from Ottawa and Montreal. That would be a heck of a lot more direct than going via Yellowknife. From there it's all small charter flights, so it will be an expensive trip, but probably well worth it! Always thought it would be cool to do this, too, but sadly it's much cheaper and easier to go to Europe from Toronto than to the north of our own country...
