North Bay photo-tour - 52 pics of the Gateway City

The City of North Bay is about 340 KM due North of Toronto and has a population of around 56,000. Unlike most Northern Ontario communities, there are no mines or pulp and paper operations in the city, it's economy is driven mainly by education (Nipissing U and Canadore College), government services, light manufacturing (with many companies that supply the mining industry), transportation, retail/restaurants and a healthy summer tourist industry.

Most of these pics were taken by me in late December and early January.

We'll start with some pics from the Main Street, which is actually called Main St.!

This is a really cool old building on Worthington St. It's actually a transformer station.

Here are a bunch of pics of downtown taken from the waterfront area.

Some new residential here, another 6 storey building will be going up beside this.

A huge new downtown park is being developed in the vacant former rail-lands in the foreground.

Here are a couple of construction projects that are ongoing in the city, these two pics are more recent than the rest.

I'll wrap up the tour with some of the residential areas right on the edge of downtown. These are from the East end, the neighbourhoods in the "Old West End" are indeed older, and quite a lot nicer, but I'll have to get to those later.

I Hope you enjoyed the tour!

Great tour Bay Guy!
I used to pass through North Bay when I was a kid on family trips...it has been years though. The downtown core street looks pretty nice!

So many other smaller cities have had a hard time keeping downtown lively. Looks like North Bay's main street is doing well.

One Ontario town I've never been to. Thanks, much enjoyed!

Thank you for the pictures. North Bay is a nice city. It has a nice waterfront, probably hard to illustrate at this time of the year.

BG: Good photo tour of North Bay,Ontario! There is something about college towns that I like anyway to begin with and the tour shows the downtown as well as some neighborhood pics. I would like to have seen more pics of the NB ONR/VIA station area but I liked it just the same! This is a town that I wouldn't mind stopping in someday!
