And of course, it's truly disappointing to see a litany of beer cans - if one can't even keep their own nest clean, how much confidence can we have in one's ability to keep its' surrounding neat and tidy?

Talking about Chicago, this is not exactly a growing prosperous city.
Just look at the population numbers.
There are less people in Chicago now than in 1930.

Year Population %
1900 1,698,575 54.4%
1910 2,185,283 28.7%
1920 2,701,705 23.6%
1930 3,376,438 25.0%
1940 3,396,808 0.6%
1950 3,620,962 6.6%
1960 3,550,404 −1.9%

A superficial look at the above data may give the impression that Chicago is not a prosperous, vibrant city, some contextual information may help put issues into perspective. Increased prosperity and the growing availability of contraception over the past sixty years has resulted in a substantial drop in average family size. So, while within Chicago city limits, the total number of families, the number of housing units, may be stable, or even growing, the total population shank because of the reduction in average family size. Chicagoland as a whole, including the outside city limits suburbs, would be a different matter. The same thing has happened in a number of areas in Toronto, witness the situation a number of our schools are in with their declining enrollments.

Not to say that Chicago is without problems - its financial situation is indeed dire. And, depending on how one draws the boundaries, Toronto has had a greater rate of overall growth - but the basic statistics cited above could, by themselves, be quite misleading.

Now that the temperatures are almost of Summer Hopefully they started planting lots of cherry blossoms trees at Nathan Phillips New Peace Garden.

The Archer was getting its annual torching yesterday, a little maintenance to keep it young. There was a flame to be seen, but difficult in the wind.
