Mississauga Soccer Stadium (Canadian Premier League, other events)

Any major sports/entertainment venue in the GTA suburbs that would hope to have events regularly attracting thousands of people would almost certainly be a failure. The Mississauga (7000-seats) and Brampton (5000-seats) arenas built in 1998 for junior hockey teams have been largely ignored. The big amphitheatre (Kingswood Music Theatre) at Canada's Wonderland briefly thrived after it was built in the 1980s when the only downtown competition was grubby old Maple Leaf Gardens, but it was then quickly forgotten after SkyDome, Molson Amphitheatre, and Air Canada Centre were built.

On the contrary, the Arenas built in the 905 were built in poorly located places (no transit, complicated to get to, not located near a town centre/mall, nowhere to grab a meal/drink before or after an event) and did not have key tenants like a decent hockey team! Acres of parking doesn’t guarantee good stadia.

(If London can support multiple Premier League teams, the GTA could def support multiple NHL teams… sadly the Leafs like their money too much)

An attempt to build an urban focused stadium or arena would go well imo, as seen in cities all across the US that have discovered soccer! And the Mississauga City Centre is probably the best option right now in the 905, given Vaughan’s failure to capitalise on the Subway so far…

Why doesn’t Brampton and Mississauga come together and build a joint stadium on Hurontario between the 401 and 407? I don’t know why this councillor is pushing this like it’s any sort of good idea.

Because Mississauga is grudgingly still in Peel and doesn't really like working with Brampton on anything.

They're not particularly any more difficult to get to using local buses than most other locations in Brampton and Mississauga. I've seen them when I've gone past them on buses going to other places. The only reason I've never been inside these arenas is that they've never had any events I wanted to see. I have been to other smaller suburban GTA venues like Rose Theatre Brampton and Flato Markham Theatre.
But that's the big problem any larger suburban venue will face. The larger concert events and pro sports teams are going to want to be in downtown venues, and it would be very difficult for a suburban venue to attract them by offering something that's better or not available downtown. Even the acts that might be suitable for a venue of five or six thousand seats are more likely to go to Oshawa, Hamilton, or CasinoRama than the arenas in Brampton and Mississauga.

they better call the team Peel County FC instead of something like Mississauga City FC if they're gonna put the stadium in this location.

Any updates on a CPL attendance this year? I know Hamilton (Forge FC) and Halifax (Wanderers FC) have strong support.

I know that the other heavily suburban CPL team, York FC, has experienced attendance issues.

This is a joke, right? Besides the poor infrastructure, drivers here are horrible at dealing with cyclists. My friends and I are always forced to take up a whole lane when we do group rides, because drivers will try to pass in the most dangerous ways if you don't do that. I've never been on a road in Toronto (besides Kingston) where that was necessary.

You've been gone for too long if you think cycling is better in Mississauga than in Toronto. There are practically no ways to get to the lake from North of the QEW without putting yourself at risk. Dixie, Cawthra, Hurontario, Erin Mills, Winston Churchill all suck, and Mississauga Rd. is only marginally better.

maybe i explained it wrong. Cycling is better in Mississauga than what it used to be. It''s nowhere near better than Toronto. it's absolutely terrible but it's better in recent years than when i was living there.
