A Conservative staffer who videotaped Stephane Dion's speech last week at the local Bradley Museum is being paid through the House of Commons budget to shadow the new Liberal leader, the Montreal Gazette reports.
Conservative Resource Group senior researcher James Murray is featured on YouTube in a video called Tory Spy Revealed that shows him videotaping Dion's speech until he is spotted. Murray stops only to turn and point a camera at Liberal Mick Gzowski - who was filming him.
In the video, the phrase "He is a House of Commons employee," is flashed on the screen. Also appearing are the statements "Your tax dollars at work. Shadowing Dion across Ontario and filming Dion in the House of Commons. The government is spying on the Official Opposition."
The video was posted by someone with the username liberalvideo. It has been viewed several hundred times.
Reached yesterday by reporters with the Gazette, Murray referred questions to Conservative Party officials. A Tory spokesperson confirmed Murray had been following Dion, the Gazette reported.
