Making Room for the Middle: A Housing Strategy for Mississauga is Mississauga’s draft housing strategy that includes 40 actions to support housing affordability. The draft strategy focuses on middle income households - those households who do not qualify for public subsidies but cannot afford homes at current prices.

The evening will begin at 6 p.m. with an open house to allow you to learn about and respond to the draft Strategy, speak to City staff and share your housing experiences.

Beginning at 7 p.m. there will be presentations with guest speaker, Vancouver’s Paul Kershaw Ph.D., founder of “Generation Squeeze.” Kershaw will use lessons from Vancouver and other Canadian cities to show how middle income households are being squeezed by rising house prices relative to earnings and share his vision for rethinking housing policy in Canada.

Presentations will be followed by a discussion period moderated by CBC Radio’s Mary Wiens.

The event is being hosted by the City of Mississauga with support from Canadian Urban Institute and the Urban Land Institute.
