Bottom line, people's interpretations of the Bible (and, while we're at it, the Qur'an,) aren't exactly the purest forms of the word.

A lot of people forget that, outside of Protestant Christianity's doctrine of "sola scriptura" (only the Scriptures are divine), there IS a pure interpretation of the Bible / Qur'an: that of the Church (Christianity), Sunnah (Islam), and Talmud (Judaism). These people are essentially locked in to one interpretation. So unfortunately, you won't be seeing radical change from them anytime soon.
