Many of us here have strong opinions on how the City could be a better place.

We're not alone! (Is that the X-Files theme music I hear?) :)

Seriously, one thing this city has in abundance is activists. Of all descriptions, on all subjects.

I think its useful for those interested in different aspects of our public realm/culture to know what other with the same interests think....

And, as our time, finances, engergies permit...to read their blogs, join their groups, volunteer, donate or take their cue by writing or emailing our politicos or business leaders on issues of the day.

To that end, below are some links I suggest, to websites and/or facebook groups (i have to, its the age) .....

Add your own suggestions to this thread.

Excellent posts folks, thank you. Hours of pleasure there. I feel an attack of Deep Vein Thrombosis coming on....

Here's my contribution

1. http://www.publicspace.ca/

This is a great site dealing with streetscapes, decluttering places, advertisements, gardening/planting in the city with out permission and so on..

2. http://styleinprogress.ca/

Amazing artist in toronto, they got permission to paint 40 utillity boxes around the city with art! we need more stuff like this.

3. http://www.beautification.ca/

Great site!, we need to find ways to make toronto less bland and more vibrant looking, colourful, nature does not make the world all grey, i think we could take an example from nature.

4. http://www.blogto.com/

Interesting site to keep up to date on urban culture in the city.

I love how these people are'nt just sitting around bitching how everything sucks, there not waiting around for culture to be handed to them on a plate, there actually contributing and involved in adding a little bit of flavour to Toronto!, organic cultures that have devoloped around the world didnt just happen cause people in villages/cities where waiting around for viacom to hand it to them, real culture comes from people like you and me, from the poor to the rich and everybody inbetween.

We can A. whine and complian how everything sucks and smoke bongs roting away in a basement , B. critize other people while making no real effort to do anything except maintain your own comfort level, C. go out there, thoughts into action.

yet another group of people doing something http://www.uwgt.org/

enjoy

BUMP!

If anyone has anymore, please add them to this discussion. I'm going to slowly add them to our Urban Toronto's links section so as we have a one-stop place to go for other Torontophile sites.

Here's one: www.urbanjazz.ca

It's actually a site I'm developing with some planning colleagues (including my fiance). It is evolving, but basically we are a bunch of planners who believe our profession really could use a fresh look at its principles. Besides that, there is some eclectic writings touching on urban experience.
