Just signing it as 50 with no traffic calming (except having to dodge the idiots on the shoulder) is malpractice.

It really should be 70, then 50 at the ramp split, 30 approaching the terminals, then 20 at the terminal.
Now if they can just find a better way to get rid of the idiots who wait at the shoulders - which might also be the reason they have the speed lowered to 50.

Honestly, they need automated enforcement (fines in your mailbox) with cameras. And maybe a better explanation of what a cell phone waiting area is.

I'm pretty sure they already do for parking enforcement at the arrival/departure areas

I have seen motorists waiting and waiting and waiting at arrivals and departures for 30 or more minutes, and worse, not getting ticketed.

With most having cell phones nowadays, the motorists could go to the cell phone waiting area for a call to pick them up from arrivals. There is no need to wait at the terminal. As for departures, the motorists should be ticketed if they escort the airline passengers inside.

If they have to be longer, use the paid parking garage.

I would like to know if the roadways traffic lanes will be narrowed to match the posted speed limit signs. Currently, it may say "50 km/h", but the traffic lanes and curves seem to be designed for speeders going 60, 80, or even 100 km/h.

Actually this is a good design. Hwy 409 approaching the terminals, the speed needs to drop to avoid danger at the terminals. The majority of the motorists see the 50 kph sign and slow down. Those who don't pay enough attention, or too brave to do 50 kph, at least notice something changed and begin slowing down, but the lanes remain wide enough to avoid a collision if they are still doing 80 or 70 kph.

There are no pedestrian sidewalks or crosswalks there. Both the 50 kph posted limit and the 80+ kph lane design serve to reduce the risk of cars colliding with other cars.

Airports seem to bring out the worst in humanity.

I remember a few years back someone complained on the yyz Facebook page that their partner was ticketed for leaving their vehicle parked at the departures drop off curb while assisting them getting into the terminal.

It never dawned on them that parking in the garage for 20 mins or so was cheaper than the ticket they recieved. Or they were simply trying their luck.

The approach roads are a similar situation. They only think short term and self centered.

See link. The bad news is that it is located where the Pearson Transit Hub will be. Which means it will have to be moved when they start construction.

Worse are the ones who park at the arrivals after getting a call that they "arrived". Forgetting that it could an hour or more for the plane to get to the gate, disembark the plane, and walk the few kilometres to get through customs and waiting, waiting, & waiting for luggage that never arrives. They could wait for free at the cell phone parking lot for the call that they are about to exit the terminal with their luggage.

If you want people to drive 50 kph on what is obviously a limited access freeway designed for 100+ kph, maybe some rumble strips are in order.
