Kingston Road Transit EA Terms of Reference

It will be interesting to see what sort of plan is developed for Kingston Rd. Streetcar or LRT seems to be the most likely since that is what the TTC is all about these days.

Also interesting is the map on page 4 with all of the TTC projects listed. It says March 2007 so it may have changed somewhat since then but I don't see the Jane LRT on it. You can also see what a nice mess downtown will be with all these projects. Should be interesting too watch all these projects take shape over the next several years.

Edit: Maybe there is a reason for this that someone here knows. It seems kind of odd that there are so many projects in the east end of Toronto but not a lot in the west. Is the west just less populated and has less need for transit or is it a case of the TTC just ignoring that part of the city?

It's not just Jane - the map has little in common with Transit City.

As for the east vs west, much of it is just various quirks - there's no one reason. A good case can be made that the west needs more transit because even though population is very closely split (almost 50/50), traffic is worse in the west and it's more central in the overall GTA. Some eastern routes are quite long, which does things like inflate ridership; some western arterials are discontinuous, etc.

This document pre-dates "Transit City" but page 31 of "Building a Transit City" has this same map but includes Jane Street, so my guess is that its omission is an oversight.
