Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

With the alleged opening coming in December, are there plans for GO Train service to the ION light rail line from Toronto? Maybe for the first weeks while the line is new and "fresh"?

What do you mean? As opposed to the already 8 GO trains that come and go from Toronto monday to friday? Or the 4 VIA rail trains 7 days a week?

Don't think VIA stops at Weston nor Bloor on a Saturday or Sunday.

The year 2025 is a long time to wait for a GO Train on a Saturday, today. See link.

This is actually huge, Metrolinx hasn't mentioned any of this "proposed weekend, midday, and evening service" on the Kitchener line before. Are talks going well for the bypass?

Unfortunately, it doesn't go all the way to Kitchener, just Mount Pleasant (the GO Train station, not the Crosstown LRT station). From link.

Would like a "special" just when the ION opens, for a week or so.

Considering they dont run special trains to Kitchener for Oktoberfest, the largest bavarian/thanksgiving festival in North America, when the city of Kitchener doubles in size with visitors, I wouldn't count on it.

You're right. If GO is able to run special GO trains to Niagara Falls on weekends (next: October 5-8, 2018), GO should run special GO trains for Oktoberfest AND the opening of ION. See link.

When is the service slated to start operating?

Some point in December
Not going to happen.

Was referring to this graphic.
You can tell they did an awful job with the way they drew it out, but half an hour to and from Kitchener during the early mornings, late evenings, and on weekends would be a big deal.

Every indication here is that it will begin service in December
I remember reading somewhere (probably the facebook group or a Record Article) that Grandlinq needed like 6 months to test the system. We don't even have all the trains and all the equipment installed and it's already close to mid October. That leaves like 2 and 1/2 months for testing if all trains are delivered days after thanksgiving. That's not going to happen, and by the time trains do get here, it will be too late.

that 6 months was quoted starting from 4 months ago. They don't need all the trains here to finish all the testing.

Doesn't only one (511 I believe) actually have all the grandlinq equipment installed?
3 of the ones currently in Waterloo are in the final stages of equipment installation with another one from Kingston expected to be shipped with equipment fully installed soon (it was due for inspection the week of September 24th).
