I HATE the "Christmas" Lights across Yonge Street!

Alright,

I knew it just wasn't me to notice how UGLY those Christmas lights are across Yonge Street. Last year's display was soooooooooooooooooo much better? Why the hell did they mess with a good thing? What's with the colours? Red, White and Blue? Those aren't Christmas colours at all??

Also, the lights under the canopy of Dundas Square are cool, yet tacky.

Also noticed that they FINALLY replaced the DEAD trees in front of College Park, about TIME!

Speaking of lights, I was pleasently surprised that the city fixed up the sidewalk/decorative bricks and replaced the street lights along Bay Street and under the Gardiner Expressway with the fancy green standard found throughout the Waterfront/Rogers Centre.

Such a small detail, but really helps with the overall look and feel of the street leading up to the waterfront.

I've been thinking that those lights are pretty ugly as well. No cohesion, just random patterns of blue and white. Ah well, hopefully it will be better next year.

Its Yonge Street what do you expect? :)
Its suppose to be tacky :)

Re: I HATE the "Christmas" Lights across Yonge Str

I agree, the tackiness adds to the street.

Re: I HATE the "Christmas" Lights across Yonge Str

I dunno, they look fine to me. I don't know if I prefer last year's or this year's.

Re: I HATE the "Christmas" Lights across Yonge Str

Though the most intriguing part of it is novel: the big blue Xmas tree in the middle of the Summerhill rail bridge...

Re: I HATE the "Christmas" Lights across Yonge Str

Really? I think they are absolutely wonderful. I have a 1/2 composed spacing wire post about it too, just haven't had time to get a picture of it.

It's the best i've seen in a long time.

(there is no sarcasm in this post. i really do love them)

Re: I HATE the "Christmas" Lights across Yonge Str

I like them a lot too. I don't understand people's problem with them. If I have any issue, I only wish there were more!

Re: I HATE the "Christmas" Lights across Yonge Str

They are strangely appropriate in colour for this weekend's Mr. Toronto Leather competition! I'll give them a vote just for that.

LOL, I highly doubt that the BIA got their inspiration from Tony DeBlase.

i like the yonge st lights too, they tie into the feel of the dundas square lights. and it feels like they put more up this year than last year.

Re: I HATE the "Christmas" Lights across Yonge Str

I think last year's were better.

Though I can't say that either are really any good (this year or last).

But just imagine they did? It could change the whole image of Santa...

bizorky:

I don't know about your intepretation of Santa, but mine's always a little sinister. Beware of those who bear toys...

Geeky,

I agree; the night time arrival, the chimney entry, the big belt, the happy elves...! There's alot happening with Santa.
