More romantic than Paris, in my opinion, the old town of Nafplio as viewed atop Palamidi Castle, more than 1,000 steps up the cliff

Across this Causeway and hugging the other side of 'the rock' is perhaps the best place on the Planet

I didn't post the pictures of her and I, just the cities.

Monemvasia was a Byzantine town from around the 6th century. But modern Monemvasia came around the 1400s or so. From about then on in it changed hands between the Venetian and the Ottoman empires.

The place was spectacular.

The first city in this set, Nafplio has a castle (Palamidi) that was built by the Venetians around 1700. Nafplio used to be the capital of Greece, for about 5 years in the early 1830s.

Thanks for the pics. Must go back to Greece. I was there on a summer Eurail blitz in the early eighties and really miss the beauty and hospitality of Greece.

Were the beaches and water ncie at Nafplio and how was it getting there from Athens?
