I know of most of the major hotels in the downtown area... but does anyone know of smaller hotels that might have good deals? Or does anyone have hotel suggestions generally?

What's your price range? The Bond Place Hotel and Hotel Victoria are just over $100/night. Both are at convenient locations.

Thank you very much -- this was helpful. I'm willing to spend a bit over $100 a night... seems as though I can't get much under this.

There's also the Days Inn (or Days Hotel?) at 30 Carlton St. that may be under $100. Also, the Isabella Hotel which is not as central but close to a subway. It's $109.

My favourite hotel to stay at in town when I came in on weekends in university was the Clarion Shelby at Sherbourne and Bloor. Rates start at $65 a night for two double beds... you can't go wrong with that. And it's remarkably clean, quiet, and safe -- all you need for a good night's sleep.

I stayed there in March and we had a nice room with a king-sized bed and the charge on my credit card was $125 for the night which included parking. Not bad for a fairly nice hotel downtown. My only minor gripe was that there was no really hot water-they seem to have a governor on the temperature for some reason so if you want a really hot bath or shower (like i enjoy), you can forget it.

Maybe they get a lower insurance rate if they don't allow guests to scald themselves

Actually, it is something that I recommend people do if they have little kids (i.e. kid proofing just a little more).
