Highway 26 work in Ontario budget

There is some good news for politicians fighting for improvements on Highway 26 near Collingwood.
The Ontario budget that was delivered Thursday included plans to proceed with the new alignment of Highway 26 between Collingwood and Wasaga Beach.
Officials with the Ministry of Transportation confirm no new actual construction work has started.
The only work that has been done is some pre-construction engineering and environmental approvals for the first phase of the project.
That first phase includes the clearing of the sides of the highway, landscaping and the construction of the Batteaux River Bridge and Fairground Road Underpass.
If funding becomes available soon -- officials tell Bayshore Broadcasting News the work can be tendered this summer.
