GO Transit Fleet Equipment and other

Do GO and VIA use common hookups for hotel power, given they use different voltages for HEP? If not, then presumably that would add an item to the notion of laying over GO equipment in London.

The physical plugs are the same, although the pin configurations within the plugs are different.

I've never heard of setting up a dual-voltage layover setup, and considering the requisite differences in wiring - while I'm sure it could be sorted out - it would still make it far too easy to "accidentally" plug the equipment into the wrong system. That said, there are alternate ways of doing it - there are portable step-down (and step-up) transformers that allow for the required change in voltage in a unit the size of a large suitcase.

Could they have different wayside power units for VIA and GO? Different colours?
Sure, but.....

You still need them to output different voltages - VIA uses 480vAC and GO uses 575vAC. That's not an overnight thing to fix - it will take several weeks at least to set up the new feeds to the distribution network, install new transformers, install the new wayside cabinets, run conduit, etc.

Someone mentioned that there is a rumor that they want to get service started in October so if that's true, then they should get started on that now....

Hopefully the schedule is both ways at both rush hours (although at the speed of this corridor using the word "rush hour" is a misnomer).

Westbound (down)Westbound (down)Eastbound (up)Eastbound (up)
Toronto06:3017:1909:4320:29
Kitchener08:0819:0508:0218:51

Only issue with that schedule is that they would likely want two platforms in Kitchener when they cross, at least for the morning trips.

Counter peak service just won’t happen until the sidings are restored west of Georgetown. That work is still awaiting procurement. Possibly in a year or two.

I don't really get what the point of them is? Hasn't always been said that having seat belts on a bus could make it harder for someone to get out in the event of an emergency?

It does in a way as it takes time to remove the belts.

The reality is though that if a bus slams on the brakes passengers will go flying. That is likely why they did this.
