GO bus holiday strike looms

A holiday strike on GO Transit buses appears more likely now that talks have broken off between GO and the union that represents its bus drivers, office workers and ticket agents.
GO buses are expected to run normally tomorrow but union president Denis Tanham was calling a meeting this week with his executive to discuss strike action.
GO management said it has asked the union for 48 hours notice of any strike action so travellers can make alternative arrangements.
The two sides met this morning at a Toronto hotel after 69 per cent of the GO workers voted yesterday against a tentative contract settlement.
About 30,000 people a day ride GO's fleet of about 1,800 buses but the majority of the 165,000 daily passengers take GO trains.
Several passengers at the GO bus depot at union station yesterday were unaware of the possibilty of a strike but said they would be able to manage without the GO bus easily during the holiday season.
