this user: http://urbantoronto.ca/member.php?7225-Estirutty has spammed the entire forum with topics related to illegal content. i don't even want to open the threads because they might contain horrible images.

i view this less as spam and more of an attack on the forum its self. this is probably a good time to get the police involved.

the offending threads haven't been deleted yet like regular spam would have been by now, so i can only assume that the admins are leaving them in situ for an investigation.

i wonder if it was a bot or a human? there should be CAPTCHA enabled for new members so bots can't post. the ipod spam was annoying but this is something else.

IMO this was a sever attack. Malware.

the topics suggest it's child porn.

let's hope the reason the admins have left it as is so the police, etc can review and trace back to the offender, and charge them.

i was going to contact the site owner but in the process of doing so, i saw he was last online after the spamming took place so he is probably aware and taking the appropriate steps. there's no sense in sending him a message because he's probably got hundreds already. what a shitty way to spend christmas.

did the threads actually contain anything illegal? or was it just typical gibberish spam with links to phishing/malware sites?

Like most internet security measures, ways around are them always being found. There are thousands of people in third world countries who spend their day solving CAPTCHAs for a few pennies. The bots clip a screenshot of the CAPTHCA and post it to a site where human readers scroll through and solve them. It's at the point now where a bot can now get an answer to a CAPTCHA in a minute or so.

it's better than doing nothing though. not all spammers have access to such methods.

I was on one forum the other day that did something kind of cool.
You have to solve a mathematical question when you are posting, for every post you make. They were really simple, like 9-7=

Searching his name and looking up all his posts and the threads he started provides a way to move and erase all one's stuff in a couple of simple moves.
