That's right, it is considered a Subway.... Makes even more sense.

Except they haven't exactly been spinning this project as "we're bringing the subway to Mississauga". At least so far.
 
The province and Metrolinx seem like they are going to move very quickly on this and the Ontario Line.

Let's say for the sake of argument that they accomplish their objective and there are shovels in the ground in time for the 2022 election. What does that say about red tape in this province under previous regimes?
 
Planned location is the parking lot next to the alt hotel the area boarded by Airport Rd, Hwy 409, Viscount Rd, and, roughly, American Dr.

They could "rough-in" the station box and trackbed now for the Eglinton West LRT and Finch West LRT, then wait for the rest of the LRT to be built.

Must be using "subway" in the dictionary definition of "an underground electric rail system". Some of the non-transit using "conservative" followers may think it means "underground heavy rail rapid transit", while some of us transit users hope it means "light rail rapid transit" (above or below or surface running).

How long of a walk will it be from the transit hub to the train terminals?

A lot of the American airports have a 10+ walk to the transit facilities. Does't make for a pleasant experience

Doesn't that create confusion? Eglinton West LRT and Eglinton Crosstown West subway extension. One might confuse them for two different projects.

The problem has never been “red tape”. More like false starts that were cancelled and redirected by new governments.

Apart from the surface vs tunnel issue, the premise for Eglinton West LRT is the same as it was when McGinty trimmed the Eglinton LRT project in what... 2011? Had that not happened, the western extension would be nearing completion as part of Crosstown.

Design on the Relief Line was progressing well until Ford hijacked the project. Let’s see if the Ford design has the same rigour as that design effort. We will see if there are changes or rework after the initial contract is let. Changes are a big source of cost overruns.

I think it's just the usual subway politics. Ford lives in the area and doesn't want above-ground transit. And neither do his conservative party constituents.

John Liberal's Smart Track scheme also proposed tunneling through central Etobicoke. Network 2011 proposed the like, in fact it was to be a full fledged subway, not light rail.

One simply cannot point fingers at Ford in isolation as to why grade separation is being suggested here. As one noted a few posts back Eglinton is like a highway through the Richview corridor. Why endanger pedestrians to have to cross into the median to access the Crosstown trains? Even City Council wants it separated now. No need to complain. Money for other projects elsewhere will materialize, so the need to cut corners on this is unnecessary.

I would assume the current people mover would be extended to serve it.

They are planning to dismantle the people mover as part of this project. All passenger check-in and exists will be moved to the new terminal. So yeah, expect long walks.

Eglinton West connects to a more important node, the airport; Eglinton East doesn't.
Then depends on who you ask, some may say Eglinton East should never be built at-grade and in-median.
